Austrian painter, engraver and lithographer. Fendi (1796-1842) is generally classified as a genre painter. During the 1820s a pioneer in the field of chromolithography, a new technique at that time. In 1821 a journey brought him to Venice, where he studied the art collections and drew local people and street scenes. A popular children's portraitist, Fendi is also reputed for his erotic water-colors which have only survived in the form of graphic prints.
