In the early 1900s the camera became a smaller, portable device nude which made photography in secluded parks and other semi-public places easier.
In those days the male nude was less problematic, largely as it was not regarded as a sexual object by the dominant male heterosexual culture. So long as the male organ was not aroused it was acceptable, and some photographers took great advantage of this freedom.
